ABOUT LORI

Lori loves to help people discover their true selves by sitting with them as they together invite how God sees them.  She guides and encourages those she is privileged to walk alongside to return to peace so one can hear the still small voice that resonates with the One who created you.

Lori had a private counseling practice for 21 years.  But it was after her third and final kiddo left the nest and was safely in flight that Lori felt a terrible, very old aloneness, life was bad and scary.  Lori heard someone speak of attachment pain and disorganized attachment.  At this same time, she was tempted to return to her old old ways to escape pain- behaviors, experiences, events, people or substances.  Lori began searching inside and out, unaware of the solution for this pain.

Her most important learning was before her, to discover how to learn to face this pain not fight, understand or fix. All those solutions make it harder. What does this man mean when he says there is a third option, this pain is not the enemy, trying to avoid it is, how do you recover from acute distressing emotions, how do you act like yourself when just want this attachment pain to stop?  These and many other questions Lori sought answers to.  The main solution she found was it is not in understanding one is healed.  It is learning that secure attachment is possible and how that happens.  We don't get there by ourself, we need each other, a hesed community.  That almost made Lori run the other way but several years later she can say, it has been a terrifying but life giving adventure, one that she likens to a marathon.

Lori's starting line was disorganized attachment, carrying disabling shame, feeling unwanted.  Her addictions came from that place, they always do, disorganized attachment causes addiction.  The solution is not a quick fix, it is the journey. Your fellowship matters, your training, your intention- where are you heading to, who's your North Star, and how do you stay on course? You need help learning that pain is not the enemy, it is the avoidance of pain that is.

Today Lori would say the sky is more blue than ever, the birds voices more lovely than one can imagine, God's closeness in all of creation especially in baby fawns frolicking on her front lawn, is a comfort far greater than any pseudo comforts.  His presence is peace.   And those that know her best know that she loves to say- the number one indicator to long term mental health is the ability to return to peace, to quiet.  This was an impossible hope but one that is more real everyday and Lori wants to share who is her North Star and her secure place of peace.

Lori invites people to join her in beautiful Evergreen, Colorado.
